O’s Notes: Bassist Franois and drummer Louis Moutin are twins from France. They played together in France until Franois left for the New York jazz scene in 1996. The Moutin Reunion Band was formed when the brothers reunited in 1999. First pianist Baptiste Trotignon and then saxman Rick Margitza joined to make it a quartet. The combination of great musicians with new music and arrangements composed by the Moutins leads to a satisfying listening experience. The feel is fresh, modern jazz with a touch of fusion. I’d put these guys on par with any of the best jazz quartets playing today.
