O’s Notes: George was primarily a guitarist when he started. In fact he was one of the best on the scene influenced by Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell to name a few. After the studios discovered him, he was encouraged to sing. This was at first marketing and George initially scatted and sang along with his melodies. Over time his voice became as prominent as his guitar. The Essential collection has all of his best songs singing, scatting strumming while making hits. George has his own signature sound and it places him among the elite in jazz, pop and R&B circles.
