O’s Notes: The legendary Ramsey Lewis hosts this “Showcase” of 13 performances from proven jazz stars. Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling open with “Take Five” and we knew this was a winner right away! Marcus Miller, George Duke and Lee Ritenour team up with a heavy dose of funk on “The Panther” followed by “Señor Blues” featuring Phil Woods and David Sanborn who played with a sense of urgency reminiscent of his best tunes. Dave Valentin played a rousing version of “Obsession” and Jane Monheit & John Pizzarelli did a sweet duet on “They Can’t Take That Away From Me”. We also heard good music from Chris Botti, Robert Cray & Keb Mo’, Benny Goldson, Dave Brubeck & Billy Taylor and Clark Terry on this fine CD and DVD set.
