O’s Notes: Don Paul and Rivers Answer Moons give us a taste of Louisiana funk; a gumbo that makes you want to move. These are Louisiana Stories, performed on two discs, one packed with instrumental funk and one with Paul’s poetic verse. The band is Kirk Joseph (sousaphone), Herman Lebeaux (d), Roger Lewis (b-sax), Don Vappie (banjo), Alexey Marti (perc), and Erica Falls & Lynn Drury (vocals). We liked “Something You Got “, “The Dreamers and the Believers”, and “The Bands Are Bringing Everyone Home”. We also enjoyed the earthy funk of “Get Your JAM On!” with guest appearances by Louis Michot, Andre Michot, Herlin Riley, Michael Torregano Jr., Mario Abney. There is also a large, legible booklet with lyrics and photos!
