O’s Notes: She’s the first Filipina that we’ve come across on the jazz scene and she makes a strong, positive statement. Charmaine has a wonderfully rich, deep voice. She sings some jazz, blues and traditional Filipino folk. We preferred the jazz and blues. She does an excellent job singing the blues on “Sugar In My Bowl” and “With Or Without You” reminded us of Cassandra Wilson. But Clamor has her own vocal signature. The band behind her is strong including Christian Jacob (p), Trey Henry (b) and Ray Brinker (d). Julius Tolentino complements Clamor nicely on alto sax on “I Hadn’t Anyone ‘Til You” and several others.
