O’s Notes: NPG was formed in 1980 focused on using percussive instruments exclusively. They have received wide acclaim. For Go Between, they invited Keiko Abe (marimba) and Bill Bruford (d) to join them. The marriage of Asian and Western cultures bodes well. They use dynamics effectively drawing listeners into the music during the soft passages before exploding with passion. This is especially true on “Marimba Spiritual”, a 14+ minute piece. We found it to be suitable for background or deep listening.
