O’s Notes: Michael does a fine job creating passion as he weaves back and forth between chaos and free fusion with the appropriately titled “On Equilibrium”. This is a pattern that is repeated throughout the session. There are some darker tunes like “Entrance” and lots of brass layering on “Prokofiev”. His meandering style provides a palatable structure to free form and makes it indeed A Fine Balance for avant-garde and free fusion fans.
