O’s Notes: Lauren has a deep, seductive voice with good range and a lot of passion. She is a multilingual singer, songwriter, arranger and producer on A La Madrugada, a more complete outing than her abbreviated debut. Lauren’s band provides a strong foundation including strong solos from bassist Ameen Saleem and Jonathan Powel (t, flugelhorn) with solid work on keyboards by Sullivan Fortner. The combinations work well including several classic covers. We are excited about Henderson and look forward to hearing more from her in the future. In the meantime, we have a satisfactory set.
