O’s Notes: Pianist Anat makes her ECM debut with A Long Story, a very creative set of tunes. She is joined by Perry Robinson (cl), Ed Schuler (b), and Paul Motian, the musician who has been a large inspiration for her. Fort tends to favor the freedom of free jazz and hence a lot of the music welcomes improvisation. She has the right team to pull off her vision and they seem to have played together for years. The music is natural and relaxing with soft tones, a combination of old and new Fort originals. The end result is pleasing and places Anat on a solid path, one that we hope leads to more good music.
