O’s Notes: A Love Supreme is a one of a select, few, cherished, timeless, jazz recordings. It’s a spiritual experience. The Live In Seattle version was one of very few recordings by tenor saxophonist John Coltrane performing his 4-part Suite in the warm confines of an intimate jazz club, The Penthouse, October 1965. Elvin Jones (d), McCoy Tyner (p) and Jimmy Garrison (b) are the primary support with Pharoah Sanders (t-sax, perc), Carlos Ward (a-sax) and Donald Rafael Garrett (b) also weighing in. Released for the first time this year, it’s an appreciable effort with vibrant solos all around, and including the maestro especially on “Pursuance”!
