O’s Notes: Veteran trombonist, composer Eric Goletz has been lighting up the New York jazz scene for decades. A New Light follows Into The Night… (79). Eric leads a powerful sextet including Randy Brecker (t) and Allen Farnham (keyboards) with configurations that include an additional 9 horns and 5 strings. There’s a nice dollop of funk on “Edge Of Night”, a cool swing on “Don’t Gimme That”, and crisp, syncopated brass on “Postlude After The Light”. Goletz infuses many melodic solos along the way as in “Sunrise Sunset” and “Song For Elizabeth”. This an energetic encounter.
