O’s Notes: Canadian flautist, composer, producer Tom Keenlyside follows Fortune Teller (81) with the same quartet: Miles Black (p), Miles Fox Hill (b) and Bernie Aria (d) for A Night at the Expresso. The Expresso Coffee House was the late-night venue where Tom paid tutelage and developed his chops as a teen. It paid off nicely as we can hear throughout this recording. Special guest Melody Diachun adds rich vocals on “All of You”, “Speak Low”, “Lazy Afternoon” and “But Not For Me”. Brad Turner (t, flugelhorn) shines on the vocals, “Ghost of A Change” and “Garden Day” as well. Tom and his friends add crisp solos throughout the set making this a strong recording.
