O’s Notes: She opens with a calypso beat on “Hidden Place”. The Latin theme continues and gives a lot of these covers a sweet new twist. The band, including Edsel Gomez (p), Luisito Quintero (percussion), Steve Haas (d) and John Benitez (b) reinforces this theme. Marlon Saunders adds warm harmonizing background vocals that accentuate Siegel’s mastery. We really liked “I Can’t Help It”, “Love” and the pristine beauty of “A Wish” with Edmar Castaneda on harp. But no matter what Janis is singing, it sounds good! Her tone, delivery and arrangements are that good.
