O’s Notes: Abstract Thought is a mellow duo recording featuring pianist Kyle Aho and Randy Hamm on sax. They take turns playing the melodies across each of eight ballads but also inject explosive solos as on “How High The Moon”. The warmth of Hamm’s sax makes it inviting with no edginess. Among the best are “Long Ago” and “Alice in Wonderland”. The mood is intimate with spontaneous improvisation that stays within the grasp of the listener.
