O’s Notes: Mad Romance is a vocal quartet featuring Greg Diaz, Wendy Pedersen, Lisanne Lyons and leader Rick Harris. Greg also plays sax & flute while Harris is a multi-instrumentalist including trumpet, trombone and piano. They sing rich dynamic harmonies that surface the mood of the tunes. The haunting spirit of “You Don’t Know What Love Is” contrasts with the festive Latin treatment of “How Long Has This Been Going On”. They vary the tempos on several tunes adding doo-wop and scatting where appropriate. We enjoyed the racy pace of “From This Moment On” with Greg’s sax solo and Rick’s scat, the slow pace on “Yesterdays” and the Latin vibe of “The Thrill Is Gone”. This is an enjoyable and complete package.
