O’s Notes: Guitarist Dan Adler makes his recording debut leading a quintet featuring Grant Stewart (sax). They swing hard with subtle Latin rhythms courtesy of Dmitri Kolesnik (b), Richard Samuels and Philip Stewart (d). Alder contributes six originals that mate well with four standards on the program. Among the best are “If I Were A Jazz Man” and “All Things Familiar” with Dan sharing the lead line with Grant as they bounce along. Grant Stewart does a fine job throughout the set and Adler makes a splash. He’s not a showboat though he has good technique and poise. Stay tuned for more of his guitar music.
