O’s Notes: Groovology is a Honolulu-based quartet featuring Aaron Aranita (woodwinds, p), David Yamasaki (g), Ernie Provencher (b), and Scott Shafer (d). Guest vocalist Sandra Tsukiyama sings on “Manoa”. Almost Home is their debut recording of music composed by each of the core members. There’s plenty of variety with a Latin, fusion groove on “Mabosaki”, the playful blues of “Bubbles The Clown”, and the jovial “Brisa Tropical” with Yamasaki and Aranita playing the melody in unison. We also enjoyed the cool vibe of “Headroom” and the relaxing extended version of “The Path”.
