O’s Notes: This is bluesy jazz, blessed with soulful vocals from Etta Jones. She bends the notes while keeping the tones balanced. Her lyrics are laced with passion. The song selection includes a number of favorites “God Bless the Child”, “Fine and Mellow”, and “All of Me”. All of these songs were recorded during her 6 years at High Note just before her death in 2002. Complimenting Etta are Richard Wyands (p), Houston Person (sax), and Russell Malone (g). Each of them provides rich solos that accentuate the performance. Again these are jazzy ballads with blues characteristics. They feel good.
