O’s Notes: Many of us are inspired early in our lives by someone who sets the direction for our life. For drummer Cindy Blackman, that special person was legendary rock-fusion drummer Tony Williams. He was a mentor, teacher and true inspiration for her. Another Lifetime is dedicated to Williams, a mix of classic fusion songs along with a few of Cindy’s own compositions. She plays as the explosive center of the music and delivers a highly energetic session. Joe Lovano (sax) joins her on “Love Song”, a free fusion duet written by Williams. Guitarist Mike Stern makes a noteworthy contribution on several tracks and Patrice Rushen (keyboards) joins in for the final track “Wildlife”. This set takes us to the height of the 1970s fusion experience.
