O’s Notes: Hiromi Uehara has been inspired by both Ahmad Jamal and Oscar Peterson. She displays some of her learnings by blazing across the keys on the opener. The first two songs are mild fusion followed by “Summer Rain” which has an R&B twist and features Jim Odgren on sax. The pace slows with “Joy” before the digital song titled ‘010101’. Hiromi wraps up the set with the happy spirits of “The Tom and Jerry Show” a piano solo that reemphasizes her dexterity and command. Uehara plays music from her heart and makes a strong connection with the musicians surrounding her during this live recording. Listeners will also feel the energy.
