O’s Notes: Janice is one of Canada’s best jazz musicians being named top jazz saxophonist in Winnipeg three years running! Anywhere But Here is her long awaited sophomore release following 2002’s She’s Hip. Finlay has been busy performing, teaching and writing in between. Eight of the nine tracks are originals and they all swing, especially on “The Pillaging Pug” featuring Ron Halldorson on guitar and Don Thompson on vibes. Bassist Jodi Proznick steps up on “Song For Slim” along with Thompson (p). Finlay stands out on this CD but also allows her band mates to shine keeping the music fresh.
