O’s Notes: Jeff (sax, fl, cl) and Charlie (p, keyboards) got together at Haden’s home studio, an old church, to record the base of this session. It was their 1st time playing together and the music was all improvised, 1st take. Marc Ribot (g), Joe Murphy (tuba), Derek Phllips (d), Ken Lewis (perc) and Tony Miracle (keyboards) made contributions that were subsequently added to the initial recording. There is a lot of talent here experimenting with different sounds. Among the best tracks are “Beautiful Beggar” and the mysterious sounds of “Sweet Magnolia”.
