O’s Notes: Levinsky played clarinet and soprano sax. He is less decorated but equally capable to Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. Walt didn’t tour or play the club/show scene like the other legends. He preferred more studio and local freelance work. This 1996 concert was recorded live at River Dell High School in NJ, one of Levinsky’s last solid performances before his death in 1999. Among the other featured musicians is guitarist Howard Alden. They play eleven bubbly classics in a joyful mood that was typical of Levinsky. This is an excellent memory of one of the best swing jazzmen on clarinet.
