O’s Notes: Avishai (b), Sam Barsh (keyboards), Mark Guilliana (d), Diego Urcola (t) and Jimmy Greene (sax) put together a strong neobop package. Cohen writes all of the music with the exception of a funky new arrangement of Ellington’s “Caravan”. The songs are well developed allowing for full engagement of the band. They play a little calypso on “Etude” then move into “Bass Suite #1”, both showcases for Avishai. “Feediop” has an incredible groove with Greene exploding on sax. We were thrilled by the CD and then popped in the DVD, the thrill expanded into a visual dimension.
