O’s Notes: We’ve come to love guitarist/composer Dave Stryker’s work burning or churning blues, bop and R&B-laced jazz. As We Are is very different! It is Dave’s dream project, a rather relaxing set with strings and a to-die-for rhythm section including Brian Blade (d), John Patitucci (b) and Julian Shore (p). The string quartet features Sara Caswell (violin) with Monica K. Davis (violin), Benni Von Gutzeit (viola) and Marika Hughes (cello). All but one of the nine selections are originals in this Intriguing, relaxing session. Highlights are “Hope”, “River Man” and “Soul Friend”.
