O’s Notes: This is Kinhan’s first solo effort but she is no rookie. She stars as a part of the popular jazzy New York Voices. Lauren has a soft voice that blends well with her band. The band includes Barry Danielian (t, flugelhorn), Donny McCaslin (sax), Jay Ashby (perc), Joel Frahm (sax), Kate McGarry & Curtis King (background vocals). The groove is strong all the way through and especially on the title track, “Screaming Savoir Faire” and “As If”. While Lauren seems most comfy among the band, she is a true leader here coproducing and having a strong hand in writing the music and lyrics for the session. It’s the harmonies that make this session pop and that is a very good thing.
