O’s Notes: Miami-based pianist, composer, Professor Zachary Bartholomew launches his debut recording, Balancing Act with his quintet. Marty Quinn (b), Rodolfo Zuniga (d), David Fernandez (sax) and Benny Benack III (t) round out the band. Zachary aims to balance the cohesion of the band with explosive, passionate solos. “Time Apart”, “Sunny Days”, “Bring The Noise”, and both versions of “Crazy Socks” grabbed our attention. Strong musicians and fresh original music lead to a satisfying set that is easy to embrace.
