O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger has rich tone that is the focal point of Ballads, his latest release. It is a mix of standards and originals that place you in front of a crackling fireplace, with a cool beverage, and a loved one. He’s surrounded by first call musicians Julian Shore (p), Kim Cass (b), and Allan Mednard (d). Don’t expect breakneck solos or squeaks and squawks. The tones are pure, creating a relaxing mood for 38 minutes.
