O’s Notes: The Párniczky Quartet is saxophonist Péter Bede, Ernö Hock on bass, drummer/percussionist István Baló and Párniczky playing guitar. András reimagines compositions of Béla Bartók by infusing electric, jazz-fusion into his clasical music. Bartók was always fascinated by jazz as an element of African-American folklore but never entered the space himself. Yet jazz and fusion artists such as Corea, Konitz and Jarrett have recorded many of Bartók’s compositions. We’ll never know what Bartók thinks of this concoction but Bartók Electrified will certainly capture the attention of both his fans and jazz-fusion enthusiasts.
