O’s Notes: I.P.A. Is a Norwegian-based progressive jazz band that has evolved in Europe since 2007. The band, originally inspired by the music of Don Cherry, is a quintet with trumpeter Magnus Broo and vibraphonist Mattias Ståhl standing out. Their music is tough to categorize fully as they incorporate bop, free jazz, fusion and rock into the mix. Bashing Mushrooms has eight selections with warm textures and lots of imagination. “Go Greta” and the swinging “Fem Skator” are among the best.
