O’s Notes: This is the recording debut of vocalist Ya Ya Fornier yet she’s been performing for two decades. For Bearcat, she enlists the support of David Murray (tenor sax) who really stretches out on “Voice of the Saxophone” along with Sweet Sue Terry (alto sax). They are joined by Craig Taborn (p), Jaribu Shahid (b) and Asson (percussion) while Tanii Tabal and Gerald Cleaver split drumming duty on the rest of the tracks. Ya Ya assumes leadership on the third track swinging into “Don’t Get Around Anymore”. The theme continues in what turns out to be a very warm set.
