O’s Notes: O’s Place Jazz was born in Detroit, Michigan in the mid-1990s and we were fortunate to have a vibrant live jazz scene along with good recordings. Some of the local magic came from a polished duo featuring blues based guitarist Rick Matle with soulful vocalist Sheila Landis. Either of these artists can stand tall alone and together they equal at least three! Fast forward a score or so and we arrive at“Beautiful Things, their latest recording of scatting, Latin, samba, ballads and jazzy pop. “Vivo Sohando”, “Caravan”, “Tenderly” and “Girl From Ipanema” are just a few of the“beautiful“tunes you’ll want to hear repeatedly.
