O’s Notes: Pianist Ezra Weiss leads a sextet though an energetic set of nine bebop songs on Before You Know It. Seven of the songs are originals along with covers of “A Foggy Day” and “Alabama”. Farrell Newton (t), John Nastors (as) and Devin Phillips (ts) handle most of the melodies and each presents a lot of passion. Weiss varies the tempo and maintains cohesion starting with the opener and culminating with the title track, a fitting mellow finale to the session.
