O’s Notes: Russian composer and pianist Yelena Eckemoff selects Biblical Psalms as the basis and inspiration for“Better Than Gold and Silver. Yelena details her family’s immigration from Russia to the US, the role of psalms in her spiritual and musical evolution and her migration from electronic to live band members in extensive liner notes. She works with world class musicians including Ralph Alessi (t), Ben Monder (g), Christian Howe (violin), Drew Gress (b) and Joey Baron (d) on this 2-Dics set. Disk 1 is vocal and Disk 2 is an instrumental recording of the same ten Psalms. We preferred the rich instrumental rendition on the second CD.
