O’s Notes: Moreno leads a quartet with Aaron Parks (p), Doug Weiss (b) and Kendrick Scott (d). Guest artists John Ellis (sax), Marcus Strickland (sax) and Tyshawn Sorey (d) add color across the eight originals. You will hear Mike’s buttery smooth guitar (electric and acoustic) melodies rolling across the rhythms from start to finish. His interplay with Ellis and Parks on “Forward and Back” defines their signature sound. We also liked Moreno’s more gentle approach using his acoustic guitar on “Road Song”. Scott opens “Between The Lines” with a solo that brought him into the spotlight and gave us a better appreciation for his inputs throughout the set. This is a good, relaxing session.
