O’s Notes: We find New York-based trumpeter Terell Stafford in prime form on Between Two Worlds as he balances life as a musician with family. He reflects on his family and garners support from an excellent cast of band mates including Tim Warfield (sax) and Alex Acuña (perc). There’s a taste of the Caribbean on “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, before they open up, swinging on “Mi A Mia” (for Stafford’s daughter), with a scintillating drum solo by Johnathan Blake. Pianist Bruce Barth takes the spotlight on “Room 608” followed by Blake. Bassist David Wong opens “Wruth’s Blues”, a fine encounter to wrap the set, fittingly dedicated to Stafford’s mother.
