O’s Notes: Big Octave is a trio consisting of sax player John Alexander, Ron Brendle on bass and drummer Chris Garges. They pal eleven songs mostly written by John and Ron with a couple of covers thrown in for variety. The groove ranges from avant-garde treatment of “Tomorrow Never Knows” to blue fusion on “Blueberry Haze” and bebop on “Al Hemiola”. “New Roz” and “Election Year Blues” were the best of the lot.
