O’s Notes: The tunes on this CD cook! Sam’s work on guitar is crisp, clear and poised. He and Cassie Hart (sax) do an excellent job playing the melodies whether they are echoing, trading or dueling, it comes off well. Kevin Hart fills in the rhythms on piano an also adds some dazzle form time to time. “Grand Slam” is a showcase piece for all of the musicians and one of our favorites. But there is a lot to enjoy here in a variety of tempos.
