O’s Notes: Pianist Russ Kassoff gives us a warm set of ballads including newly arranged classics and a few of his own. Among the best is “Elegy Part 1 – Suite for Gerry” featuring Adam Niewood on sax. Dennis Mackrel (d) and Jay Anderson (b) round out the quartet. Russ goes solo on some of the tunes displaying his ability to work both hands on the keys. We also enjoyed the ragtime feel of “Yes Sir That’s My Baby” and the bossa nova beats of “Bird Fly By”. The mood is peaceful throughout and very soothing.
