O’s Notes: We enjoyed this set of seven bluesy ballads from vocalist Judy Bady, a singer with an earthy style and lyrics with a sound message. A strong band supports her with Piotr Wojtasik (t), Francesca Tanksley (p), Wayne Dockery (b) and Newman Taylor Baker (d). The program contains five classics and originals from Tanksley and Wojtasik with Bady adding lyrics to three selections. Judy scats on “Vukani” and pours out her heart on Ellington’s “Come Sunday” showing great range and lots of soul. She swings on “Sugar” and croons on “As One” leaving us warm and satisfied. Bady’s signature is unique and memorable.
