O’s Notes: Blue Bossa In The Bronx is a live session recorded in 1967 by Bernie Drayton, one of a few Black recording engineers at the time. This is the first time the recording has been released, and it is a gem. The headliner is trumpeter Kenny Dorham leading a quintet that includes pianist Cedar Walton and bassist Paul Chambers in their youthful prime! Sonny Red (a-sax), and Denis Charles (d) round out the band. The sound quality is great, and the liner notes are exceptional with photos, notes from the producer, family members, and excerpts from several interviews. Oh yeah, the music – five classics & two originals, is also first rate!
