O’s Notes: Guitarist Dave Stryker mixes bop and blues on Blue Fire in a trio with Jared Gold on organ and drummer McClenty Hunter. This is a well-oiled team with Stryker blazing through the melodies effortlessly. Gold is right there with him on the title track, just a sample of the cooking. We also enjoyed the warmth of “The Folks Who Live On The Hill” and “Every Dark St”. Regardless of tempo, this is a strong display of good blues, bop and ballads. It was Stryker’s first recording at the legendary Van Gelder studio, and they were inspired by the history.
