O’s Notes: This one is appropriately titled, Blue Velvet, featuring the warm and romantic tones emanating from Person’s tenor sax. He is joined by veterans, Richard Wyands (p), Ray Drummond (b) and Grady Tate (d). They swing on “Wonder Why” but this is mainly ballads. It’s never overpowering but very dynamic with complementary accompaniment to support the feeling, a soulful good feeling.
