O’s Notes: Pianist and producer Amina Figarova assembles a fine team of musicians to join her on Blue Whisper, her latest release. Anthony Wilson (g), Alex Pope Norris (t, flugelhorn), Wayne Escoffery (sax) and Jason Brown (d) are standouts. Figarova did all of the music and arrangements. The music has soft, warm tones on the title track and “Hewa”, the lone vocal track featuring Sarah Elizabeth Charles. It also has explosive vibrancy on “Moving Upwards” and “The Hustler”. That range of emotions typifies Amina’s work and makes this another winning set!
