O’s Notes: Mary’s got a voice that is very stage like, ready for Broadway. She sings fourteen songs backed by a good band. The music is written alone or in part by the late Matt Dennis, a singer composer and TV star. Foster appreciated his genius enough to dedicate a CD to his works. There’s a little bossa nova on “Spring Isn’t Spring Anymore” and the Latin theme shows up again several times during the set. But it’s mostly blues as the title suggests. It is a pleasing adventure with some nice work on guitar from Tony Romano.
