O’s Notes: This is a really swinging large ensemble focused on tunes written by pianist Donald Brown. Brown plays with a lot of feeling and pulls that out of the band as well especially on “New York”. He gets support from many talented musicians including Greg Tardy (ts), Stefon Harris (vibes) and bassist John Clayton who opens “The Thing About George Coleman” with a sweet solo. We also liked “Theme For Malcolm” in this energetic session.
