O’s Notes: Wes is a legendary guitarist whose ‘octaves’ style has been copied by many. He was popular with fans and fellow musicians. This session, recorded in 1963 features Wes along with Mel Rhyne (B3) and Jimmy Cobb (d). They’re cookin’ in a cool blues fashion that seems to never fall out of favor. Listen to Montgomery’s own “The Trick Bag” to get a feel for what he can do. Check out the alternate takes which include solos that he initially rejected. They are both top rate!
