O’s Notes: While Houston (sax) has come out with a wealth of very good music over the last five years, this cool bop session was recorded back in 1972. It is the kind of music that you put on as background music while you’re working and find yourself all of a sudden groovin’ with the beats. It is a combination of three different sessions including musicians like Cedar Walton (p), Hubert Laws (fl), Joe Beck (g), Grady Tate (d) and George Duvivier (b). Among the 16 tracks, what’s good is great – “Houston’s Blues”, “The Pimp”, “Sweet Buns and Barbeque” and “This Masquerade” are among the best.
