O’s Notes: Kirk is one of the most colorful jazz sax players ever to grace the stage He pushed the limit sometimes playing multiple wind instruments simultaneously! This set takes us from bebop to free jazz, contemporary cool and blues. There is a cool cover of “My Girl” with Kirk taking the lead on flute. He takes it up two notches on “Serenade To A Cuckoo” also with a flute lead driving the audience to a frenzy. The band really swings on “Blue Trane”, a fitting conclusion to this set that captures Kirk at his best.
