O’s Notes: Masha grew up in Russia but she has developed a strong love for Brazilian music. She expressed that passion singing on Crossroads with most of the lyrics in Portuguese. She selected a fine group of musicians including pianist Weber Iago and guitarist Carlos Oliveira. The bossa nova beats are prominent on “Doralice” led by a strong bass line from Don Robbins. The use of a string quartet marries classical Europe with Latin rhythms on “O Coco Do Coco” before they jazz it up on “It Might As Well Be Spring” with a fine sax solo from Harvey Wainapel. This is a creative collage of music.
